How to Make the Most of Industry Awards in 2020

PR and Media

Think back to when you were a child and you won an award; maybe it was academic, athletic, or something completely extra-curricular, but I’m sure you still remember that feeling of pride and achievement. Awards are no different for businesses, apart from that wave of pride spreading throughout your entire team!

Not only are they a great way to recognise all the hard work and sacrifices your team has made – and an excuse to give them a night to remember – but winning an award should bring more business your way too. Even if your name isn’t the one inside the envelope, the validation in being named as a finalist in your chosen category is still a great way to develop prospects, attract new talent, reassure existing clients and ultimately, grow your presence in the Channel.

It’s become standard practice that once finalists have been announced, each is provided with marketing collateral, usually small images, that can be used in advertising your achievement, so how do you make the most of this opportunity? In short, tell the world how fantastic your business is and why you’ve been recognised! Here are five suggestions for how.

Email signatures

You’ll have probably seen these yourself when corresponding with your partners and customers, and don’t they add a little trust and status to your idea of those partners? You could even use them to link to a case study or other relevant articles on your website. Put your marketing front and centre for all your contacts to peruse at their leisure!

Website

If you have a testimonial or product review page on your website, then it’s the perfect place for your awards logos, considering that 85% of people trust online reviews just much as they would a recommendation from a friend or family member. It’s also worth writing a blog and adding the achievement to any news or updates section of your website too.

Your accolades are also a great way to entice new talent to your team, with high-achievers wanting assurance that their next employer will help them develop their career even further. So, make sure you include it when you’re talking about the business in any job postings, as well as on your careers page.

In the office

Don’t forget to put the trophy somewhere people will notice. Far too often, awards gather dust in an unused room or on an MD’s shelf. Awards should have pride of place in the office, somewhere where all the team can see them to provide staff motivation, with workers wanting to repeat, or even improve on, their previous successes. Plus, they’re a great conversation starter when you’re entertaining office visitors too.

No matter what area your Channel operation specialises in, there’s an award category for you, especially given the upheaval we’ve all experienced since the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, there are more categories than ever, like the CNA’s ‘Keeping Britain Running’ Award, which was specially created for businesses that have found success and adapted to the numerous challenges currently facing the Channel.

PR/Social media

There’s no better way to spread your good news than to let the world know by sharing it over social media! Your customers may share the post on their feed or comment and congratulate you, and if any prospects see those posts, then your customers’ good wishes will give them even more reason to get in touch.

It’s worth distributing a Press Release too, whether in local newspapers and periodicals or even national publications like CommsBusiness and CommsDealer, to help direct your news to the people who will find it most convincing and have a higher chance of contacting you, once they hear the story.

Sales & Marketing Collateral

If your business has downloaded product sheets and case studies, or physical collateral like sales brochures and product lists, it’s worth including your achievements, possibly in an ‘About Us’ section or when you talk about the reasons why prospects should choose your business.

Call us biased but, by adding your recent awards to your collateral, it also gives you a prompt to update your marketing material after a few years pass, once your branding starts to look a little aged and the award dates are a bit too long in the tooth!
